Magnusson Architecture and Planning

For more than 30 years Magnusson Architecture and Planning has been centered on socially responsible housing and community development. Their design approach prioritizes inclusivity, quality, sustainability, and health, and begins with the understanding that everyone deserves beautiful, safe, supportive communities.

Their work includes affordable, supportive, senior, transitional and market rate housing; schools and community facilities; and community-centered planning and urban design. Since 1986 they’ve completed over 100 affordable, supportive and senior housing developments, comprising more than 12,000 new homes.

They are well-acquainted with the myriad public funding sources layered in affordable housing finance including agency expectations for design excellence. They also have significant experience with resident-in-place renovations, community engagement and sustainable development targeting LEED, Passive House, Enterprise Green Communities and NYSERDA certifications, as well as net zero energy use.

MAP’s design work is focused on inclusivity, quality, sustainability and health as means of delivering public value.

Sustainability has always been fundamental to MAP’s approach – their Melrose Commons was the first project in New York State to receive Stage II LEED-Neighborhood Development certification.

MAP’s design work includes buildings at the highest levels of LEED, Passive House and near net zero energy, as well as the latest energy efficiency technologies and measurements of embodied carbon.
